This index is an example for 20 hours.
Au pairs can also work more or less then 20 hours, in this case they get more or less pocket money.
If an au pair works 25 hours/week please calculate: Pocket money / 20 hours X 25 hours
    (An example: 216,- / 20 hours X 25 hours = 270,-)
This pocket money receives an aupair 15 x per year. That means 3 times more. Pocket money X 3 / 12
    (An example: 270,- X 3 / 12 = 68,-)
That means, that an au pair in Lower Austria caring for 1 Child gets for 25 working hours per week
    270 + 68 = 338 / months.

  • Au Pair Norway
  • Do you want to be part of the Norwegian culture? As an au pair you will take part in the everyday life of a Norwegian family. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience a different culture and to broaden your horizons. Norway has an incredible nature to offer. High mountains, pine forests, lakes, fjords and a beautiful coastline. The population consists only of 4.5 million people, scattered around the country’s
324.000 km2. The capital Oslo has approximately 500.000 inhabitants and is the largest city in Norway. People mostly live in towns and villages, but remember there are not many big cities in Norway. The transportation system however, is highly developed. Norway has one of the highest standards of living in the world.
The family unit is very important in Norway. Families are generally small. Most families own their own home or apartment. Over one third also own or share a cabin in the mountains or by the sea. Spending time in these cabins is a favourite family activity. Among Norwegian children and teenagers it is common to be a member of a sports club, school band and/or different youth organisations. We recommend the au pairs to join in some of these activities, as it is a great way to meet.

What are your tasks as an au pair? As an au pair you will live as a member of the family, look after the children and help with household duties. The au pair works 5 hours per day, and maximum 30 hours per week. You are entitled to one day off per week, and this day should at least be twice a month on a Sunday. Your duties and working hours as an au pair will vary depending on the ages of the
children and the family’s needs. The following list includes most duties:

    Child care
    • help the children getting dressed and fed in the morning
    • be responsible for them during the day
    • play with them
    • go for walks with them
    • bring them to and from school/kindergarten
    • help with homework
    • do simple cooking for the children, bathe them and put them to bed Household duties
    • clean up after the children
    • do the laundry, iron
    • clean dishes
    • vacuuming and dusting

You are not responsible for cleaning the windows, mowing the lawn, doing other heavy housework tasks or taking care of the family’s animals unless you have agreed to do so.

    Who may apply
    • If you are between 18-30 years of age
    • If you have good child care experience
    • If you have good knowledge of English
    • If you are motivated for a stay in a different culture, away from your home, family and friends.

in the northern part of Europe Most families prefer female applicants and non-smokers. It is excellent if you have some knowledge of Norwegian. You will as an au pair be responsible for children all day, there fore, you need to be familiar and comfortable with children. When fulfilling these requirements, we will do our best to find a host family for you.

What do you receive as an au pair? Pocket money: In the family’s home you are entitled to have your own room. You will receive free room and board and pocket money amounting to NOK 3000,- per month. In Norway an au pair-job is looked upon as normal work, hence taxes must be paid. The tax percentage is estimated by the value of food, accommodation and your monthly salary. Normally an au pair receives app. 2500,- net per month. At the end of your stay you are also entitled to 10,2 % in vacation money. In addition to pocket money you will receive NOK 400,- per month in travel card.

Language course: You have the opportunity to take Norwegian classes, or other courses that you find suitable in your spare time. You are responsible for the cost of your own language course.

Homesickness: Everyone who travels abroad for a longer period of time will experience culture shock and homesickness in some senses. It is very important to be aware of this before you apply. If you are used to travelling and living away from home, the adjustment to an au pair-stay tend to be moother. It is only natural to experience a culture shock and be homesick. When this happens you our best advice is to talk with your host family, your friends, and activate yourself with hobbies, sports etc.

Expectations: You can expect to get a family that would comply with the rules outlined in this brochure. You can expect that Atlantis will match you with the best possible family for you. You can always contact us if you need assistance during your stay.

What if problems occur?: We always advice you to communicate openly with the family in order to solve any problems or misunderstandings that may occur. If you do not feel this helps, you may contact Atlantis. We will assist you and help sorting out problems you may have with your host family. In case of emergency you may contact our 24 hour phone number +47 48 02 63 52. If necessary, we will try to find you a new host family if one is available at the time. Atlantis can never guarantee a replacement, and if we do not have a suitable family for you, you must be prepared to return home. Both you and the
family have two weeks notice of termination of contract. If a new family is found for you, you need to apply for a change in the residence permit. This is done at the local police office where the new family lives. The new host family assists you with these formalities.

Insurance: You will be covered by the Norwegian Health Service during your stay, and your host family will register you there. This means that if you get ill during your stay, you will only have to pay a small fee for the medical treatment at the hospital or the doctor (public health care). As an Atlantis au pair you will be covered by travel insurance as well. You will receive more information about this further in the application process. If you get ill, your host family is entitled to provide you with free board and lodging. If the illness last longer than two weeks, Atlantis will consult the doctor and decide whether or not
    you should return home.

Travel expenses: You must pay your own travel to and from Oslo. We advice you to contact a travel agency, and ask them about the cheapest fare. It is usually cheaper to buy a return ticket than two one way tickets. If your host family live outside Oslo the family will pay your ticket from Oslo to their home. Remember to bring money with you in order to cover at least the first week’s expenses, and be aware that Norway is an expensive country for most foreigners.

Non-EU citizens: Citizens from outside the EU must NOT enter any of the Nordic countries before you have received your work permit. Also, please make sure that you have the necessary transit visa for whichever countries you need to travel through on you way to Norway! You cannot apply for a work permit before you have been invited to a host family and received a signed contract from them. This contract has to be enclosed together with the application for work permit. You cannot go to Norway or any of the Scandinavian countries before you have the permit. When you have received it, you must arrange your travel, and plan the exact date of arrival with the family.

After entry: Within the first week of your stay in Norway, you have to register at the local police station in order to receive your final residence permit. Furthermore, you must arrange for a personal number at the Registration Office. The Social Security Office must be notified of your presence in Norway so you will be able to receive medical help while in the country. Lastly, you must be registered at the Tax Office. Your host family will help with all these formalities.

Health examination: After arrival you have to present yourself for examination for tuberculosis, mass radiography, tuberculin tests and if necessary vaccination against tuberculosis. The host family will assist you with this.

Application process: When you have read this brochure thoroughly, and decided that this is an opportunity that suits you, we will need following: Please note that everything must be written in English or Norwegian.

    • 1 personal letter addressed to your future host family
    • Some pictures of you, your family, friends and if possible together with children you have looked after

After we have received your complete application and you have been accepted to the program we will start the process of finding you a suitable host family. When we believe we have found a host family for you, we send them your application. The family then often calls you directly in order to talk to you personally and see if you are interested. If they decide that
they want to invite you, we send you their formal invitation, information on how to apply for work permit (if necessary), complete information about the host family, brochures about Norway, contracts from the family and other necessary information. You will receive a complete list of other au pairs in Norway after arrival.

When do I apply? You should apply at least 4 months before you want to come to Norway. The matching process may in some cases be shorter than this. We always try to place you according to your desired date of arrival, but we can never guarantee
that we will be able to place you at a specific time. If there are sudden changes in your plans, either new arrival dates or you cancel, we must notified immediately.

For how long and when can I go? The minimum stay as an au pair is six months. The maximum stay is two years (you will need to extend your work permit after 12 months). The majority of families prefer to have an au pair for 9-12 months. We place au pairs throughout the year, but most au pairs arrive in the summer/early autumn.

Where can I go? Our host families are located all over Norway. We recommend that you are as flexible as possible with regard to area of placement. We can not guarantee a placement in a specific village or town, and advice you to write South, East, West or North of Norway as a wish on your application. Please be aware of the fact that there are no «big» cities in Norway, and
remember it is your host family and not the place that makes the stay successful!

10 potential risks you face when not using a reputable and established au pair agency

    • high probability of unsuitable au pair or host family candidates
    • absence of a written contract
    • little or no experience in the au pair industry
    • lack of professionalism or financial stability
    • nonexistent standards or guidelines
    • insufficient references and/or medical certification
    • danger of document falsification
    • no rematch policy (secondary placement) if the initial placement is unsuccessful
    • no local support during the placement
    • limited understanding of national au pair regulations

Download Flyer (in English, in Russian):
These flyers are part of a public service campaign to warn potential au pairs and host families of the dangers of arranging direct au pair placements, through newspaper advertisements, internet or web-based matching services etc., rather than using legally registered or reputable au pair agencies.

We hope you will print out and distribute the flyer in the language appropriate to your organisation.

  • The Enrollment Seminar is your induction to the world of higher education. AIEP welcomes and salutes you in taking this serious step in shaping your future. From here on you are mounting the ladder of higher education. This will have positive consequences throughout your life and career. We pledges our full support to insure that your move will be successful and of lasting benefit to you.

As soon as AIEP has received this completed form and payment of the Entry Seminar Fee, you will receive confirmation of your enrollment at the Community Colleges Entry Seminar. You will then receive the Entry Seminar Attendance Guide, which will include detailed instructions regarding what documents are required at the Entry Seminar.

Two Guaranteed Enrollments - 2+2: After the students have attended the Entry Seminar they will receive up to three choices of colleges to attend across the United States. The criteria used to determine which three of the colleges the students are offered include:

    • English Ability
    • Intended Educational Major/Study
    • Student Choice/Desire
    • Career Goals
    • Capacity of college’s programs
    • Housing availability

The three choices are provided to the students based on AIEP assessment of the application after the Entry Seminar.

Upon admission to the college and after the student has earned an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree or an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree, the student is guaranteed admission to an American four-year college or university. American universities and four-year colleges are required to accept transfer students from community colleges in their states, or region. Students may also apply for transfers to any four-year college or university anywhere in the USA. We provide assistance to transfer students (year three) from the community college to the four-year College or university.

During the Entry Seminar provides all of the necessary information to the parents and students regarding the community college system. This includes locations, areas of study, costs, etc. It lays out the road map of the four-year degree program for the students and their families. During the seminar, all the mechanical questions are answered. In addition, information is provided regarding housing arrangements, and most importantly, the processing of the visa. These points are very important to natural parents and students in order to guarantee success. Second and most important to our client colleges, student proficiency in the English language is evaluated. Students must provide, as part of their application, current TOEFL test results. But, one of the main purposes of the Entry Seminar is to interview each student in order to fulfill our commitment to our client colleges in the USA that the students meet English language proficiency standards. It is equally to assure that the students are sufficiently prepared to get full benefit of studying in America.

English Language Abilities: ll students are required to have current TOEFL scores (within the last two years) from at least one of the three versions of the TOEFL exam: Internet-based Test, Computer-based Test, and the Paper-based Test. It is preferred students supply current test results from all three versions of the TOEFL. While we does not have a set, minimum base score required for admission, the scores are used in order to evaluate the student’s overall ability in English, along with personal oral interview. Additional test results from the SLEP, or Michigan test can be submitted and will be taken into account to assess the overall English ability of the students. It is important the student is able to function at a high enough level in an English speaking environment, which will allow him or her to attend the regular course offerings at the college. Typically, we advise a student to have attained a minimum 500 score on the Paper-based TOEFL exam. A primary purpose of the Entry Seminar is to interview each student in English by a us in order to completely understand the student’s actual English ability. We evaluates each student’s application as a whole and does not rely on any single factor to determine admission. The students attending the Entry Seminar should understand that they must have adequate English skills to attend regular college-level classes in the United States.

How to Apply: Please contact AIEP by email or by phone or visit our office for obtaining Enrollment Form.

  • Scholarship USA
  • The University Academic Scholarships Program is designed for international students to receive scholarships to American universities exclusively available to IDEA candidates. Scholarships are awarded based upon each student's academic potential and willingness to get involved in the campus community by sharing ideas and experiences with other students on campus from different parts of the world.

IDEA maintains a 100% success rate in obtaining scholarships for its participants at American institutions. Each participant receives at least 7 scholarships offers from U.S. institutions (including tuition, room, and meals). In the unlikely event that a participant would not receive the scholarship offers as previously described, IDEA will provide a 100% refund of the amount paid by the participant.

Participants can begin or continue (previous work can be transferred) with a university undergraduate career or English as a second language courses in the United States .

The Program provides an excellent opportunity for traditional students because IDEA's professional service increases the chances of being a scholarship recipient at the prestigious American higher educational system. This experience allows scholars to pursue an academic career at a higher education institution in the United States and obtain a degree that is widely recognized within national and international employment markets.

Candidates can apply to begin classes in the Fall (August) or Spring (January) semesters

The United States is the premiere destination for international students from all over the world. According to the Institute of International Education which is supported by the U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the number of international students attending American colleges and universities is fast approaching 600,000. These students come from nations in every continent because they believe that an American higher education will provide them with the best preparation for their future. The USA offers international students the most exciting, rewarding and comprehensive array of study options in the world. The main advantages of higher education in the USA are as follows:

Globally recognized institutions No country in the world has more higher education institutions than the United States of America. Furthermore, most American colleges and universities offer first-class educational programs with highly qualified professors. The on-going research at many of these universities is often published in renowned academic journals. Many of the professors at these schools are foremost leaders in their academic field. The number of top-notch learning institutions in the USA is endless.

    Scholarship opportunities

Through International Doorway Programs, its participants obtained actual university scholarships to institutions located in different U.S. states. The link between IDEA and the American institutions, through its innovative scholarship programs, has been allowing international students to obtain benefits traditionally limited to American residents.
    Employer’s worldwide recognition

A degree from a college or university is useless if it is not recognized by employers. Thus, it is of extreme importance to ensure that the degree from the school you choose is globally recognized. Higher education institutions in America obtain professional accreditation by different governing bodies. These schools earn their accreditation by meeting certain criteria, helping ensure a quality education, as well as a degree that is recognized. There are thousands of American schools that offer credentials recognized everywhere in the world.
American institutions are focusing on the global aspects of each subject, better preparing students with a worldwide view of their field. No longer can students merely focus on certain geographic areas when obtaining their academic training. U.S. institutions recognized this and offer a more comprehensive and global curriculum to meet the new trends. Top

Endless educational options: One of the most important benefits of studying in the USA is the high number of academic options offered to students. A student may study everything from consumer marketing to physical education. Because the U.S. possesses immeasurable resources, almost every field of study is available in the country.
The American school system utilizes credit units, which provides flexibility to working students, and student-athletes. This means that the student can choose when to attend classes, how many classes to enroll in each semester, and what optional classes to take. Most institutions offer academic programs that are flexible in nature. The American education system meets the needs of each student.

Training, research, & technology: Most college and universities have established affiliations with employers and researchers in different fields of study, allowing students to obtain hands-on and priceless experience. In contrast with many other countries, many U.S. institutions require that students obtain practical training in order to graduate.
Every student has access to computers and other technologies in order to succeed. Many universities incorporate the latest technology into their academic curricula. In addition, they encourage students to obtain proficiency before they go out into the workplace.

Campus Life: International students strongly believe that the friends and experiences obtained during campus life are worth as much as the education itself. The lessons and lifetime friendships obtained by living with others from all over the world are priceless.

The American culture and its people: America is a melting pot of people from all over the world. International students find most Americans to be very hospitable, friendly, kind, generous and accepting of foreigners. Of course, there are a few exceptions, as in any country, but these are not the standard. In general, people are fun and eager to learn. Many international students embrace and take these philosophies home with them.

  • Cardiff Sixth Form College
  • International Students

    Application & Entry Requirements

Students should apply in the usual way using the college application form. We will look at all aspects of the application and this includes the GCSE/O level certificates as we need to be confident that students can benefit from our individual approach to teaching.

We would expect all students to have achieved a pass in GCSE English Language. Students who need to improve their English Language level will be able to attend intensive English courses. Please note we also prepare students for IELTS and Cambridge examinations.
    Interviews

All students applying to CSFC are required to attend an interview, in the case for overseas student due to the time and expense of long distant travel we would be prepared to conduct telephone interviews. In some years our staff accompanies students on working trips to abroad and it may be possible to organise interviews during these trips if convenient.
    Teaching

CSFC prides itself on the small numbers in its A Level classes. This means that all students have the benefit of more individual tuition and more contact time with the teachers. We provide at least 7-8 hours of structured teaching for specialist A Level subject per week plus private study time and individual tutoring.

    Pastoral Care

We believe that it is important to provide all students with on going support and advice, each student will have regular opportunities of meetings with a member of staff. Our Welfare Officer, has years of experience in sorting out every problem you can imagine from setting up a bank account to where to dine.

    Accomodation

We are usually able to organise a “host” family who live close to the college for overseas students to stay with during the course. Our experience shows that this provides a welcoming and comfortable environment for a student to avidly settle into a new culture and city. This arrangement will hopefully ease any worries that potential students and their parents may have about living a long way from home.

We can also provide an independent way of living at our college residences (flats) for the more mature students.

Participant Arrival and Orientation Relocation and starting in a new position are two of the most stressful events in life, but they can be exciting, positive experiences.  When preparing for arrival, hosts should consider the types of assistance that would be beneficial from a foreign host and participants should try to consider what would make a good impression on a host.  The first few weeks will be very challenging for both participants and hosts.  Participants will be looking for direction on how to accomplish their goals efficiently and be a productive part of the organization. Providing detailed information and outlining objectives to be accomplished and how to accomplish them will be appreciated.  This will allow for a smoother transition at the training site.

Multicultural Program Requirements Cultural exchange is an important aspect of this program.  All participants should be encouraged to interact with American citizens.  Interaction with groups, families, professional societies, religious, community and company-related social activities should be encouraged.

  • LSI - Language Study and Work Canada
  • What is the LSI Paid Placement Program?
The Paid Work Experience Program, at the end of a course with LSI, offers practical work experience within selected fields. The program is designed for people who want to gain experience in the specific area, improve their English and earn some money whilst they are learning and working. It is recommended that you obtain both your Student Visa and your Work Permit (with our support documents) before you leave your home country because of the difficulty in doing so after you have arrived in Canada.

Can I do any position? Am I suitable for the program?
Entry level positions can be found especially in the hospitality industry (for example, banquet serving), or in the food and catering industry (for example, as a chef). You will receive industry-specific training prior to starting in your job. Professional placements can be made in fields such as IT or Accounting, and long-term placements can be made in other professions.

Do I need to take a course at LSI?
Yes, you need to take an 8-12 week English course for short-term placements or a 24, 36, or 48 week ISY course for long-term placements; this will be followed by the full time work placement of the same duration as the course.

    How much will it cost?
The paid work placement fee for entry level and short and long-term positions for professional positions (6 months or longer) required at the time of registration. The overall price of work placement will consist of the placement fee plus the cost of your tuition, accommodation and living expenses.

What level of English do I need?
For entry level positions, a Middle-Intermediate level of English is preferred, but a Lower-Intermediate level can be acceptable. For other positions, students need to be at least Upper Intermediate in level. It is important to note that you will be in competition with other applicants and you will need to pass an interview with the employer in order to succeed in the placement. If LSI feels that your level of English is not sufficient to pass an interview, you may be asked to take additional English classes.

    How long are the placements?
The minimum period for a hospitality position is 2 months and the recommended period is 3 months. The minimum period for a professional, full time placement is 6 months, and durations of 36 weeks or 48 weeks are possible through LSI. (In general, positions are available for various amounts of time depending on the length of your course at LSI. In all placements, the length of time spent in the workplace cannot be more than the length of the course studied at LSI.)

Will I have to do an interview?
Yes; your interview might be in person or via telephone. LSI will give you all the details of this beforehand on an “Interview Confirmation Sheet”. Please make sure that you look at the website and location of the placement before the interview; if you do not understand anything please ask us to explain it. There is also a list of tips on the interview confirmation sheet and you should always follow these. (If you do not follow our guidelines you may not receive a placement.)

    Where will I live?
Accommodation is optional and not a requirement for LSI or the work experience program. Students are free to secure their own housing or ask LSI for assistance. (If students are placed outside the city in seasonal resorts, low cost housing is often made available by the employer.)

    Where will my placement be?
Your placement could be anywhere in Canada. Many of the placements are in British Columbia or Ontario (and often in the Vancouver or Toronto areas), but you must accept the fact that you can be placed anywhere in the Canada. Alberta, for example, is one province where many paid placements are being made. Due to the nature of the industry you cannot request a specific location.

How much will I get paid?
The amount or kind of remuneration offered varies from company to company and from position to position. Some companies may pay a flat fee, while some prefer to pay an hourly wage; in some cases employers may offer free room and board instead of a cash payment.

Do I need to pay tax?
Yes you will have to pay tax from your salary but in some cases you can claim it back. (Some agencies and accounting firms will offer a cash-back service on tax claims.) Please ensure that you ask your employer or local tax office for the documents that govern your employment in Canada.

    Do I need a visa?
Yes, you need a Student Authorization for your course at LSI, and you will need to obtain a Canadian work permit.

    Do I need health insurance?
Health insurance is recommended for all students who study at LSI. Depending on your length of stay as a student in Canada, you can qualify for provincial health insurance during your stay.

    Is there an age requirement?
Yes, you must be at least 19 years old for an entry-level position, and should be 21 for a professional position. (It is expected that candidates for a long-term, professional placement will already have three years of professional experience in their home country.)

Is there a particular start date?
No there isn't, but demand from different businesses will vary depending on the season when you apply; a flexible start period and end period must always be given to meet the changing demands from the particular business industry. For example, if a business is seasonal, applications will have to be received at the beginning of the season.

    Can two people apply together?
You can apply as a couple and we will do our best to place you together but cannot promise to do so.
This is because the employers might not need 2 people at the same time and because live-in accommodation is not always available (if you are placed in the hospitality industry). It can help though if you both have experience and have a high level of English.

What happens if I don’t like my placement?
If you do not like your placement, and if the position differs from what is explained on your “Work Training Contract”, please inform LSI or make note of it in the regular reports that you submit to our placement office. We can then look into the situation and, when necessary, work to find you another position. However this is subject to us receiving a satisfactory report from your employment supervisor.

What happens if my employer terminates my employment before the end of my contract date?
If your employment is terminated because the placement no longer has work for you and it is no fault of your own, we will work to find you an alternative placement. However, if your employment is terminated because you haven’t performed well or you have committed a gross misconduct, we will not seek a further placement for you and you will have to return home or find your own employment.

What are some examples of employment being terminated due to ‘my own fault’?
There are many examples of where employment can be terminated (or “Fired” as it is commonly known). Here are some examples of reasons why some of our previous students have been fired.
    • Lateness for start of work
    • Finishing your shift early without permission
    • Being unfriendly or argumentative with colleagues or management.
    • Not being flexible
    • Giving away drinks or other products/goods to friends this is considered to be theft.
    • Telling employer or colleagues that they are leaving before their notice period (read further)
    • Being rude to customers.
    • Work quality not to the standards that is expected.
    • Damaging company property.
    • False facts on their CV.
There are obviously other reasons why someone can be fired but no employer enjoys letting someone go
and employers normally have a good reason for doing this.

What happens if my employer changes my job position?
If your employer changes your job because he feels that you are not suitable for the original job or that there is no longer a position for you in that department due to a down-turn in business you must accept this offer of employment. You will be able to keep your placement officer informed about this.

If I want to leave the placement and return home or to the LSI school what must I do?
You should always serve your notice to the employer as agreed on your “Work Training Contract” You should always put it in writing thanking the employer for your job and giving your date of leaving. You should never ever give your employer your finish date before this or tell any other members of staff as your employer may ask you to leave earlier and in this case LSI will not be able to find you another job. You should also inform LSI that you are leaving and if you are going back to school you must inform the school and not arrive there without giving them at least one weeks notice.

Do I get a report or certificate?
We receive a report from the employer and if you would like a copy for your future job applications it can be sent to you. In addition to this, LSI will provide you with a letter/certificate for your work placement.

    How do I apply?
    • Complete an LSI enrolment form giving details of the required course, accommodation and transfer requirements.
    • Complete an LSI ‘Paid Work Placement’ application form. Please note that the start date for your paid work placement must be at least 12 weeks after we receive your application.
    • Send the forms as well as a Resume/CV, and other documents as requested by the school officer.

    What happens next?
    • All work experience application packets will be sent to you once an LSI Enrolment Form has been submitted. Applications must be fully completed along with all supporting documents as well as payment and sent to LSI. All documents must be ORIGINALS (faxed or emailed copies are not acceptable in some cases). These must in turn be received by LSI or our partner-agency 12-16 weeks in advance of the program start date (see specific program requirements). PLEASE MAKE SURE TO PLAN IN ADVANCE AND ALLOW ENOUGH TIME FOR THIS! Note that placements will only be made AFTER the required level of English is achieved!
    • You will be contacted by the work placement office at LSI to discuss your CV Questionnaire. We will then use this information to create a standardised CV.
    • If your level of English is not good enough to attend an interview by the end of your studies we will not be able to find a work placement for you. You will be given the option of extending your studies until this level has been reached.
    • During the last few weeks of your course you will be informed of the times/locations of your interviews. It is important that you take these interviews seriously – the companies are under no obligation to give you a job. The most common reason for failing these interviews is through inadequate English language skills.
    • Please note that LSI often works with agencies to help us find the best possible placement for you. So do not be surprised if an agency contacts you on our behalf with details of companies, or to arrange interviews.
    • Support will be provided throughout and you will be contacted by LSI or an agency early into your
placement to make sure that everything is running smoothly.
    • Wages will normally be paid directly into your bank account. Salaries can either be paid weekly, fortnightly or monthly, and are normally paid in arrears. We can advise you on how to open a Canadian bank account for your wages to be paid into. Note -- it can be difficult to open an account if you are here for less than 6 months. If you can open a Canadian bank account with a from your home country through your existing bank then this can be a good idea.
    • Uniforms and meals are sometimes provided free of charge by your employer.

    Terms and conditions
    • Whilst LSI is responsible for finding paid work placement, we cannot be responsible for placements that fail due to improper behaviour of the student, incompetence, or inadequate English.
    • If we do not believe that your original objectives are realistic, we will discuss this with you and try to agree new areas in which we believe you would be more likely to succeed.
    • The type of job offered to you will normally be dependent on your English ability. The majority of
    jobs offered will be unskilled.
    • When a company offers you a job in one of your chosen areas you must accept it.
    • Once you have been placed, you will become an employee of your host company, and as such
be subject to their rules, regulations and working practices. LSI will not provide an alternative
placement if you leave the company voluntarily or if you are sacked.
    • When you have accepted a placement, LSI will only consider moving you to another paid placement if your agreed working hours drop below 20 hours per week or in the event of gross misconduct on behalf of the host company.

Language Study and Works designed to increase your working knowledge of the English language by advancement through different academic levels. This program course of study is designed using the communicative teaching method. The courses consisting of oral, written, audio and computer mediums.

    Personal
Learning about other cultures will help you expand your personal horizons. Studying a new language, communicating with people in their own language, and learning about their culture can be a source of both pleasure and personal enrichment.

Learning a language is not just learning about its pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary, it is learning to see the world as the other culture sees it. It is also learning to see your own culture from a new perspective. Knowledge of a foreign language will enable you to compare and contrast cultural concepts.

    Academic
Studying a foreign language can improve your cognitive and critical thinking abilities. And three years of language study on your record will catch the eye of anyone reading your college application. No matter what your career choice, knowledge of a foreign language gives you an advantage.

    Professional
Knowledge of foreign languages is vital for the Federal Government to effectively meet 21st century security challenges by better understanding the languages and cultures of our allies and enemies. Recent surveys indicate that more than 80 agencies of the federal government rely on professionals with intermediate to high-level competence in foreign languages.

Foreign language study provides the ability to gain an understanding of the cultures of US trading partners. American multinational corporations and nongovernmental organizations need people with foreign language abilities. U.S. ability to compete effectively in global markets means that more and more businesses deal with companies in other countries. They need employees who can communicate in foreign languages and understand other cultures. An employer will see you as a bridge to new clients if you know their language.

    Summer Programmes

In the Mornings:Beginning at 9:15 a.m., you will have three hours of General English lessons in a group of no more than twelve students. Our qualified teachers will help you improve your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Lessons often take place in one of the world-renowned Oxford University colleges, such as Lady Margaret Hall.

In the Afternoons: After lunch, you have several choices:

    • Most students join our social activities leaders for an enjoyable local outing, such as punting on the river, touring one of the historic Oxford colleges, or enjoying cream tea in a café.
    • You can join a group lesson to focus on conversation and listening skills.
    • You can have one-to-one lessons with a private teacher in any subject area (Business English, Academic English, Medical English, etc.).
    • You can explore Oxford on your own, or with friends and classmates.
Social Life: During your studies at CIE, we will arrange for you to stay with an English family, taking breakfast and the evening meal with them. During mealtimes, you can chat with your host family about your day and life in England. Our students often keep in touch with their host families long after the summer is over.

At the weekends, we offer excursions to nearby sights such as London, Stonehenge, the Roman city of Bath, and Shakespeare’s birthplace of Stratford-upon-Avon.

In your lessons, you will meet many other students from all over the world. In your free time, you can explore Oxford with your new friends, visiting the many nightclubs, restaurants, shops, and parks the city has to offer.
