Certificates and Letters of Reference
At the successful completion of the program, students will receive the following:
• Step UP to Work n' Study Hospitality Certificate
• English Bay College - Official Transcript
• Letter of Reference - from your Host Company on Company Letterhead

6 Month Program – Program A
• Vancouver Campus (12 weeks sample) – 420 hours of in-class study
• Internship Practicum (12 weeks sample) – 120 hours of in-class study at the Resort

6 Month Program – Program B
• Vancouver Campus (12 weeks sample) – 480 hours of in-class study
• Internship Practicum (36 weeks sample) – 360 hours of in-class study at the Resort

12 Month Program – Program A
• Vancouver Campus (24 weeks sample) – 840 hours of in-class study
• Internship Practicum (24 weeks sample) – 240 hours of in-class study at the Resort

12 Month Program – Program B
Students will be required to complete all the necessary modules of the Step UP to Work n’ Study Program in order to successfully graduate from the Program. Study includes English Language Training/Cultural Training, Hospitality Workshops (English as a Second Language-based), Language Courses/Hospitality Workshops and a Paid Hospitality Internship (which is a necessary an integral component of the Program).

Internship
Can we guarantee an Internship?
Yes. The Internship is an essential and integral component of the Program.

How much will I earn?
Between $8 and $14 per hour.

How many hours will I have for my Internship?
A minimum average of 30 hours per week.

Accommodation
How much are accommodations during my paid Internship?
They range from $180 - $450 per month.

What kind of accommodations are available during my paid Internship?
Normally, you will be living in shared Staff accommodations and in most cases, you will have access to both laundry and cooking facilities.

Is a Security Deposit required?
Yes, this will be required. Normally, it is 50% of your monthly rate. The deposit is remitted to you at the end of your stay.

When do I pay for accommodations when I go off to my Internship?
You will pay either upon arrival, or there will be a payroll deduction from your employer.

What kind of accommodations do students normally take during the first part of their Program in Vancouver?
Students can select homestay with a Canadian family. This has been the most popular option for students. Homestay includes a private room and 3 meals per day, and is arranged by English Bay College. However, students can select to stay in a hostel during the first part of their Program in Vancouver. Accommodation is varied, and while we can send web links for students to review, this is not organized or arranged by English Bay College.

Finances
Do I need a Canadian Bank Account?
Yes, this will be required for your pay. Our Placement Coordinator will help you with those arrangements in Vancouver.

Do I pay taxes?
Yes, taxes will be deducted from your pay. However, in Canada, we have an $8,000 tax exemption. In other words, if you do not earn more than this amount, you can claim your taxes back.
